Rees Jones Bunker Renovation

The bunkers needed renovation because they did not drain properly and always washed out after rain storms. The amount of labor that went into making the bunkers playable was taking away from other important tasks that needed to be done. The bunkers all had rocks in them from erosion and members would hit them with their clubs.

We decided that the Better Billy Bunker was our best option. Every bunker was removed and a new one was shaped. New drainage was added to every bunker, stone layer and then the Better Billy Bunker polymer was applied. We found the right sand depth for the best playability, where it was soft for a small layer and then firm underneath.

The membership was ecstatic with the results. The bunkers do not wash out after any amount of rain and we save a lot of time and money on the labor that used to go into maintaining them.

New Tees

The renovation included new forward tees being added to nine holes. It added a new set of tees for those golfers that wanted to play a shorter course.

In House Drainage

Nashawtuc Country Club is located right next to the Sudbury River in a low area. Drainage has always been a problem and is a main focus during the fall and winter. We have added countless drain lines to fairways and have made a big improvement for the playabality of the course after rain. The members are always more happy when the fairways are able to dry and they don’t have to cart path only for the day or days.

Range Mat Addition

We added range mats to both driving ranges. This addition allowed the members to be able to hit balls and practice even when the turf range is closed due to grow in or weather related. Mondays and Tuesdays the members hit from the mats and this allows the turf range to grow and have better conditions throughout the season.

Partial Green reconstruction

This green was pocketed in trees and for years had a section of the green that would struggle. We removed 15 trees from the area for increased air movement and sunlight. The green had 4 inches of sand and then all hard-pan/clay. Dug down 10 inches, added drainage and installed 10 inches of 80-20 sand/peat. Put sod back in place and this year the green had no problems and roots measure 6-8 inches into the soil during the season.

Wildflower/stone wall Project

Converted 3 acres of land from unused rough area to wildflowers for environmental/wildlife benefits and aesthetics. Sprayed the areas with round-up. Tilled the soil, hydro seeded and hand planted 3,000 flowers. Stone wall built for aesthetic purposes not only for golfing but the view from the clubhouse.

Winter damage on greens

We had considerable winter damage from freeze thaw episodes along with high winds coming out of winter into spring of 2022. The spring was hard for growing grass but we ultimately succeeded in bringing the greens back to life. This is the first green at The Haven CC, the other green was the practice green that was also damaged.

Bunker Renovation with Country Golf

Bunkers had old/no drainage and would wash out every time it rained.

New bunkers all had drainage installed with a sod liner to reduce contamination with soil underneath.
